If you haven’t heard yet, North Allegheny is hosting its first Relay For Life on behalf of the American Cancer Society on Saturday, July 10th at 12:00pm through Sunday, July 11th at 8:00am at Newman Stadium. We are hoping that North Allegheny’s 1st Relay For Life will be very successful, but we need your help to make that happen. There are a number of ways to become involved with this worthwhile event. We have attached a brochure and ways to become involved for your convenience. We have a number of teams/groups that have already signed up, but we need more! We hope we can count on your support – if not physically, then perhaps financially.

We will be hosting an informational meeting on Monday, June 7th in the Health South Room at the Baierl Center at 6:30pm. Dawn Pruett of the American Cancer Society will be there to discuss the entire event and answer any questions you might have and will also be available to sign up individuals and/or teams. We have a number of athletic teams (7th – 12th grade) that will be participating as a way to gain team support before the 2010 – 2011 season. This would be a great way to enhance the camaraderie of your school staff, department staff, neighborhood, company, friends and relatives.

In addition, on Saturday, June 19th, the American Cancer Society will have an Open House for the purpose of signing up teams for our July Relay For Life. That sign-up will be located in the Ponce Room at the Baierl Center from 9:00am to 12:00pm. You can also sign up a team by contacting the North Allegheny Athletic Department at 724-934-7238 or by going on-line at www.relayforlife.org/panorthallegheny. Even if you not able to participate in this event, please visit this website and make a donation that will be tallied into the overall success of our 1st Relay for Life. McKnight's First Annual Trunk Sale FAQs

What is a Trunk Sale?

Seller gathers items to sell, such as yard sale items. Packs them up in the car and sets up in a parking spot to sell those items.

Do I sell out of my car/trunk?

You can set up a table in your space, or use the trunk of your car. You have access to the parking space you rented and can set up as you wish.

Can I sell anything?

Yes and NO - Please remember this IS an elementary school fundraiser. The committee does have the right to request items to be removed from the location. Please be respectful of this and keep the KIDS in mind.

Do I get to keep the profits?

All those that have 'rented' space will keep their profits. The Fee to participate is kept by the McKnight PFA.

What if it rains?

Checks will be cashed once we confirm the event is to be held. Therefore if it rains you will get your check back.

What if I am not from McKnight Elementary and want my check back in case of rain?

You can send a self-addressed stamped envelope to the school and we will return the check to you. Otherwise your check will just be voided and kept in the PFA files.

How are spaces assigned?

As you come that day we will direct you to your spot.

Where will this be advertised?

We are planning on advertising in the Pennysaver, Greensheet, and various posters. More details when the advertising is confirmed will be posted.

North Allegheny Kennywood Day

The Unified Boosters Organization (UBO) will be selling Kennywood tickets in the schools for North Allegheny’s Community Day on Thursday, May 20. Tickets will be available for sale from 9:15 - 10:15 am at McKnight. Something new this year: for every (200) tickets sold at each school on May 20, the UBO will award $50 to a student enrolled in that school who bought a ticket on 5/20.

In addition, for each Kennywood ticket sold, the UBO will donate twenty-five cents ($.25) to the Ian Overmeier Scholarship Fund. Heidi Overmeier was tragically killed in the LA Fitness Center incident in Bridgeville, PA. She was the UBO’s contact for Kennywood Day for many years and was instrumental in the success our Community Day.

Breakfast is!! The classroom with the highest participation rate for our fall fundraiser – including monetary donations – will be treated to a breakfast with their choice of “Educational Eggs’ or “Principal Pancakes’ cooked by everyone's favorite principal, Mr. Parks. Orders must be turned in on time to qualify, so get those order forms in no later than Thursday, September 17. Great prizes are also given to top sellers, including $100 cash, and 4 all day passes to Kennywood Park! Most importantly, all money raised goes toward providing the extras for our kids – field trips, assemblies, and so much more.

Stop by the cafeteria tonight for the Ice Cream Social

Don't forget tonight is the annual Ice Cream Social sponsored by the PFA. Come join us in the cafeteria from 5:30-8:30 pm for a scoop of Bruster's ice cream. Many teachers have signed up to be celebrity scoopers, so stop on by and get a sweet treat from one of your favorite teachers. Catch up with old friends, or meet some new ones! New this year - Froggy 95 will be in the gym to entertain the kids with dancing, lip syncing and more. Don't forget to stop by the table in the cafeteria that is sponsored by the PFA's Welcome Committee. You can sign up for the PFA's email distribution list, pick up a volunteer form, and learn about the many fun events and activities the PFA sponsors throughout the year.

Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year at McKnight Elementary School! The PFA hopes everyone had a fun and relaxing summer. We are looking forward to seeing all of our new and returning students, faculty and staff.

The PFA has many fun and exciting activities and events planned for our students and their families throughout the year. Our Kindergarten BooHoo/Yahoo! event is happening today, and everyone's favorite get-together, the Ice Cream Social, will take place on September 3 from 5:30-8:30 pm in the Cafeteria. Parents are invited to subscribe and follow our blog for the latest news, volunteer opportunities, and sponsored events. Information will still go home via the weekly McKnight Messages, the monthly Megaphone and various flyers in your child's Thursday envelope.

Family Picnic is tonight

McKnight's annual Family Picnic is today, Thursday, May 28. The picnic will be held at The Lodge in North Park from 5:00 - 8:00 pm. Activities include a cake walk, petting zoo, pony rides, face painting, fire truck, and bounce houses and more! You did not have to purchase meal tickets in order to be able to attend the picnic. Please come out and have some fun with all of your McKnight friends!

North Allegheny Kennywood Day is June 23

Please consider purchasing your gift cards through our Great Lakes scrip program instead. McKnight earns a percentage on each gift card sold. Profits earned help fund events and activities for our students.

There are other retailers that Giant Eagle doesn't even carry, such as Amazon.com, Burger King, Hallmark, Wendy's, BP, Sheetz, Dunkin' Donuts and many, many more!

Ordering is so easy! Gift cards are available for sale at PFA meetings, Market Day pick up, and even at some school events. If you can't make it any of these days, use an order form and send it in to school. An order form can be found in the December Megaphone, and one will be coming home in the March edition as well.

Family Bake-Off and Auction Night

Be sure to join us this Friday, February 6 for McKnight's first ever Family Bake-Off and Auction Night. This fun event runs from 7-9 pm in the cafeteria. McKnight students will team up with their parents and compete against each other to see who can make the best cakes, pies and cookies. Prizes will be awarded by several celebrity judges in several different categories.

While you're waiting to find out who McKnight's top chefs are, check out the themed baskets created from donations submitted by each grade level . Purchase tickets for a chance to win one of these great baskets. Tickets are sold 1/$1, 6/$5, and 15/$10. Winners do not need to be present to claim their prize. The classroom that created the basket with the most tickets at the end of the night will be awarded a prize!
